At the end of 2022, I felt myself becoming burnt out on the rhythm of high-volume production work, and knew that the skills I had learned were yet to be applied to my own works and studio practice. Seeking to diversify my experiences as a potter, I focused my attention on learning atmospheric firing techniques. This led me to the southern shore of Alabama, where I learned to source and work with materials from the environment. I was lucky enough to receive scholarship through the Eastern Shore Arts Center to fire these works in an Anagama for the first time, which led me to apply to Cub Creek Foundation. Here are a few of the pots from that first firing, along with early experiments conducted in Cub Creek’s Anagama and Soda kilns.
